A Bright Start to the New Year with Exciting Collaborations
Hello everyone! I hope you're all doing well. My new year is already off to an incredible start, filled with fresh projects and opportunities with both familiar and new clients. I can't wait to share everything we're working on, but for now, there's so much to reflect on and celebrate.
A Creative Collaboration with Erica's Events & Decor
Last fall, I had the privilege of meeting and collaborating with Erica from Erica's Events & Decor on a fantastic project in Woodbridge, VA. We worked together to capture three beautifully designed spaces—a powder room, a living room, and a dining room. Having followed Erica on social media for some time, it was such a rewarding experience to see her creativity come to life in person. Her designs are stunning, and they were an absolute joy to photograph.
Experimenting with New Lighting Techniques
For this project, I got the chance to experiment with lighting techniques I picked up at a Stephen Karlisch workshop. While I kept things subtle, these techniques added an extra touch of depth to the final images.
Living and Dining Rooms: For these spaces, I used two strobes positioned outside the windows to achieve soft, natural-looking light. This added a gentle, faux sunlight effect that complemented the light color palette in each room. Since the spaces felt so airy and fresh, I didn't feel the need to lean into a moody aesthetic. Instead, the lighting highlighted the spaces' natural beauty and Erica's impeccable designs.
Powder Room Challenges: Powder rooms can be tricky to photograph! Their compact size and unique angles always offer a creative challenge, but I'm always up for it. For this room, I placed a small strobe in the corner and used an umbrella to create fill light. The effect mimicked sunlight streaming through a window, adding brightness while maintaining the room's cozy charm.
Looking Forward to More
This was my first shoot with Erica, and it certainly won't be the last. I'm thrilled about the projects we already have lined up and can't wait to share more with you. Collaborating with talented creatives like Erica is one of the best parts of my work, and this experience set the tone for an exciting year ahead.
